'Work-At-Height' Practical Inspection & Record Keeping for Competent Person


Target Audience:

Individuals, especially supervisors and safety personnel to be appointed as a competent person who will be responsible to inspect and maintain fall protection equipment during their course of work.


All supervisory roles and safety personnel playing critical role to ensure the fall protection equipment used by workers are free from defects and degradation due to prolong usage.


Course Overview

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:



Identify the statutory requirements for equipment control and the approved codes of practice to comply.

  • Explain the difference between user expectations versus equipment test standards and how this can lead to misuse or damage.
  • Conduct a thorough inspection of simple personal fall protection equipment and complete an inspection report.
  • Explain the concept of traceability and it’s importance as part of recordkeeping. Define the limits of delegate competence and how to get additional help, or information.



  • Able to perform visual inspection through examination of harnesses and lanyards for signs of continual degradation, defect  etc
  • Able to record the findings of their inspections/ examination.


Course aim

Acquire WAH equipment knowledge so that they can perform their WAH inspection activity as part of a maintenance programme properly and effectively.

There will be written assessment (MCQ), and practical assessment

Entry Requirement

At least supervisory level



The certificate will be awarded to the participant on successful completion of the written/ practical assessment. Certification will be valid for 3 years after which refresher training will be required.
