Work-At-Height Course for Assessors (Integrated)

 

SDU : 16 SDUs

 

Target Audience:

Project Managers, Project Engineers, WSH Officers, WSH Coordinators or equivalents who are required or appointed to be a safety assessor to evaluate work-at-heights (WAH) activities before approving the Permit-To-Work (PTW) for WAH in their workplaces.

The aim of this course is to provide course participants with the requisite WAH knowledge to assess work-at-heights activities so that work is carried out properly and safely

 

Course Overview

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify, explain and apply the relevant Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Legislations / Approved Code of Practice / Singapore Standards applicable to work-at-heights (WAH)
  2. Identify and explain the roles & responsibilities of a WAH Assessor
  3. Identify hazards, evaluate the risk, and implement control measures for WAH activities
  4. Conduct risk assessment for work-at-heights (WAH) and implement preventive measures related to work-at-heights (WAH)
  5. Implement and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of Fall Prevention Plan.
  6. Evaluate whether the control measures implemented on site for PTW are adequate and effective
  7. Demonstrate competency in donning, checking and correcting of Individual Fall Protection equipment and first line response in emergency

 

Course Objective

  1. Legal requirements, Approved Code of Practice and Standards for WAH
  2. Roles and Responsibilities of different personnel under the WSH (WAH) Regulations
  3. Hazard identification and risk evaluation for WAH activities
  4. Fall control measures
  5. Implementation of control measures for WAH
  6. Fall Prevention Plan (FPP) & its components, including emergency response for WAH
  7. Implementation of Permit-To-Work (PTW) for WAH
  8. Individual Fall Protection equipment and First line response in emergency

 

Course Requirements

Participants to provide a Work Permit / NRIC copy

Participants must be able to listen, read, speak and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills (ES) Workplace Literacy Level 5 or above

Ability to carry out hazards identification, risk assessment and risk control measures.

Assessment

There will be 10 short answer questions, 1 essay question and practical assessment.

The participant should be familiar with Permit-To-Work (PTW) and prepare the pre-course assignment, i.e. PTW (sent to course participant upon registration confirmation), prior to the course start date. It is compulsory for course participants to bring the pre-course assignment on the course date for small group discussion purpose.

The PTW can be taken from the sample in the Code of Practice for working safely at Heights or from an actual PTW implemented at the participant’s workplace or any other workplaces

Certification

The certificate will be awarded to the participant on successful completion of the written and practical assessment. The certificate is valid for lifetime.
